Top 100 Global Interior Designer
There are only a handful of people who are known famous know by one name. Adel, Opera, Beyonce, and then you've got Veere. He's become an icon of the interior design world.
We were so fortunate to have him on #Episode-4 of the podcast, and the conversation certainly did not disappoint!
He grew up in New Zealand in the 50s and 60s, which at the time was a remote place. When he was 21, he set off to Australia and worked in the Outback, driving trucks for a mobile gas pipeline. He worked for a year to save up enough money to be able to travel the world, exploring every country from Afghanistan to Iran, to India, to Vietnam, to Nepal.
As David Brooks said, “Build identity capital. In your 20s you want to do three fascinating things that job interviewers and dinner companions will want to ask you the rest of your life.”
Veere’s early career in London was working in a hip restaurant frequented by the Beatles and other interesting people. With the money he earned at the restaurant, he would buy furniture and art, and he had a shop on Portobello Road.
Building a reputation for being a talented person, he went to work for Mary Fox Linton, David Hicks, and Colefax & Fowler. This was his first training in interior design.
Eventually, Veere broke out and started his own business, serving ever more amazing clients. He’s done projects in the UK, the Hamptons, Mustique, Dhabi, Rio, Morocco, and Arkansas.
When you look the institutions someone has been a part of, it gives you a window into their network, and who they might know.
If you are a really brilliant violinist but no one hears you, what's the point? It's what you give back really, networking. It's what you manifest, and then that manifestation is presented to others. That, along with who you are, is everything."
