U.S. Surgeon General, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
Vivek Murthy is a British-American physician and Vice Admiral in the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps. He has served as the 19th and 21st Surgeon General of the United States under Presidents Barack Obama, Donald Trump, and Joe Biden. It'd be fascinating to hear what has inspired his career, and who has helped him along the way.
Born in Huddersfield, England, and at the age of three, moved to Miami Florida, where he was raised.
His early leadership in founding health-focused organizations like VISIONS Worldwide and Doctors for America, combined with his advocacy for public health and innovation in medicine, established him as a prominent figure. His big break came in 2014 when President Obama appointed him as the 19th U.S. Surgeon General, elevating his influence on national and global health.
When you look the institutions someone has been a part of, it gives you a window into their network, and who they might be friends with.
Empathy is choosing to see ourselves in another despite our differences. It's recognizing that the same humanity—the same desire for meaning, fulfillment, and security—exists in each of us, even if it's expressed uniquely.
We are not meant to be alone. We are meant to be together, to share our lives and our burdens with others.
